Body Contouring

Frank offers a number of body contouring procedures. The indications for body contouring can vary from improvement of smaller problem areas, or mommy make overs after kids, to conditions with severe sagging skin after massive weight loss.

THERMiRF is the first aesthetic technology using temperature-regulated radio frequency energy to achieve meaningful and safe cosmetic results which are precise and painless, with little to no downtime, to rejuvenate and tighten skin tissues whilst stimulating collagen remodeling.

THERMiSmooth Body is performed by targeting the areas under the skin, providing a temporary reduction of cellulite.  There are a series of applications over 6-8 weeks that are gentle and completely non-invasive, which means there is zero down time  THERMiSmooth body can be used to treat cellulite, sagging skin and contour problems in the following areas:

  • Chest
  • Breast
  • Arms
  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Back
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Knees
  • Calves
  • Ankles

Frank Graewe is the first Plastic Surgeon to offer these treatments in South Africa. The main benefits of this procedure is that it is a gentle, non-invasive procedure with no downtime. Each treatment is personalised according to the specific condition and need, but we recommend a series of applications over 6-8 weeks.

The contours of the upper arms can be greatly improved by an arm tightening procedure, also called brachioplasty. With an arm lift, excess skin can be removed while eliminating the saggy, wrinkled appearance of the upper arm – resulting in better arm contours. The scar runs from the armpit on the inside of the arm to the elbow.

Liposuction treats troublesome fat deposits and problem areas. Bulges and fatty problem areas develop because of hereditary factors coupled with our eating habits and life style. The contours of your body can be permanently improved if you consider all of the contributing factors and work actively on a long-term improvement in support of your operation. Fat does not have to be discarded but can be used to fill defects and improve cosmetic appearance, or to isolate the stem cell fraction contained in fat tissue.

Lymphatic massage or manual lymphatic drainage procedures can vastly improve healing, down time and cosmetic results after liposuction surgery. These treatments can reduce swelling, speed up recovery and due to the stimulating effect on the skin, dimpling and uneven areas are seldom present.

At the same time, you should be sure to eat correctly and get a healthy amount of exercise. For very small problem areas, the minimally invasive treatment with injection-lipolysis can be effective. Areas include lower eyelid bags and the chin and cervical area.

Typical problem areas which can be treated with liposuction are the outer thighs, hips, inner thighs, abdomen, knees, calves and double chin.

However, liposuction is not suited for treating patients that are considered overweight. In cases of extremely high body weight, the risks are far greater and the results often less satisfactory.

Similar to plastic surgery to firm the thighs, a buttock lift is a procedure that brings the incision somewhat higher in order to improve position, shape and firmness of the buttocks and outer thighs. This is also used to eliminate uneven areas resulting from outer thigh liposuction. If, in addition, the abdominal area is repositioned downwards, it’s called a body lift.

A limited buttock lift can be performed by making an incision in the gluteal fold. With this procedure, several days in the hospital are required for optimal healing.

Buttocks can be enlarged, firmed, and given a better contour through implanting special silicone implants. Defects in the buttocks area due to trauma or removal of a tumour can also be treated by implants.

In lipofilling the necessary fat is usually taken from the abdomen, thigh or knee area. Lipofilling with your own fat cells can be used to build up sunken cheeks, correct skin creases and wrinkles, for lip enhancement and to create a generally more youthful looking face. Lipofilling can also be used to correct contour defects in other parts of the body. Liposuction on problem areas and re-injection of your own body’s fat cells where they are needed can be combined in one procedure. Fat grafting is becoming an increasingly popular method for buttock and breast augmentations.

The calves of the lower leg can be enlarged by implanting special silicon cushions. The calf implants are brought into position through an incision made at the back of the knee. This procedure can also be done with fat grafting.

Excess skin and fat in the abdominal area following large weight loss or pregnancy can be an unsolvable problem for a woman. In spite of proper eating habits and exercise, these problem areas cannot be eliminated in all cases.

In some cases, liposuction combined with a less extensive tummy tuck will produce a pleasing and natural looking result. In cases where large amounts of excess tissue are present, we recommend a more extensive abdominal surgery involving a tightening of the abdominal muscles as well as the removal of excess tissues. The scar from abdominal plastic surgery lies below the lower abdominal crease and the position of the navel is adjusted according to each individual case. In a mini tummy tuck, it may be necessary to slightly lower the position of the navel.

Excess skin can cause the thighs to sag, especially in the area of the inner thigh. Through careful removal of this excess tissue, a marked improvement in the appearance of the thighs can be achieved. The scars can lie hidden under the bikini line but in most cases a scar stretching from the inside of the knees running up to the groin areas is necessary to remove sufficient tissue. The connective tissues of the thigh are tightened and firmly attached to prevent stretching and sinking of the scars. When excess fat is present, a liposuction is performed at the same time.
